OVERVIEWtop

This activity will address strategies and barriers for implementing pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP. PrEP is a prevention option for people who are at high risk of getting HIV. It will also address the issue of preconception counseling and how to facilitate decision making for women and men regarding reproduction.

TARGET AUDIENCEtop

This activity is designed for healthcare providers involved in the screening, diagnosis, evaluation, management, prevention, and treatment of patients with HIV/AIDS. This includes infectious disease specialists, primary care physicians, OB/GYNs, pediatricians, advanced practice nurses, nurses, social workers and other healthcare providers.

OBJECTIVEStop

Upon completion of this program, participants should be better able to:

  • Describe approaches to incorporate pre-exposure prophylaxis counseling into clinical practice.
  • Implement procedures for obtaining pre-exposure prophylaxis.
  • Demonstrate counseling practices regarding individual’s reproductive health care needs.
  • Provide scenarios where barriers arose for pre-exposure prophylaxis and poor reproductive outcomes.
