This activity will address strategies for clinicians and social service providers to be able to more effectively recognize and manage trauma in their HIV patients. This conference will address treatment strategies for trauma-informed care in situations of exposure to violence, physical, sexual or psychological abuse or neglect that threatens the safety of the patient.

This activity is designed for nurses involved in the screening, diagnosis, evaluation, management, prevention, and treatment of patients with HIV/AIDS. This activity may also be of interest to physicians, physician assistants, social workers and other healthcare providers.


Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Describe the effects of trauma and the principles of trauma-informed care.
  • Discuss the Seeking Safety model for trauma informed care in HIV.
