2017 HIV Clinical Update: The New Jersey Statewide Symposium (17HH14)

This activity is jointly provided by the François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center at Rutgers School of Nursing and the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH)–Division of HIV, STD and TB Services


This conference will address the most recent HIV treatment recommendations along with new directions in HIV research. Presentations will also discuss the increase in certain cancers in people living with HIV, the challenges of transgender health, the role of the healthcare professional in improving health literacy, and new advances in hepatitis C.


This activity is designed for healthcare providers involved in the screening, diagnosis, evaluation, management, prevention, and treatment of patients with HIV/AIDS. This includes infectious disease and primary care physicians, advanced practice nurses, and nurses. The conference may also be beneficial for social workers and medical case managers.


Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Discuss current HIV treatment guidelines and identify medications in the pipeline
  • Describe the malignancies that are increasingly occurring in HIV patients and discuss strategies for prevention and early diagnosis
  • Recognize the complexities in HIV prevention and treatment of transgender patients to ensure the best outcomes
  • Implement the concepts of health literacy including numerical and health terminology comprehension into patient practice
  • Interpret information about Hep C treatment presented through case studies

Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This activity is awarded 5.0 contact hours. (60 minute CH)

This course ACPE# 0374-9999-17-020-L02-P qualifies for 5.0 contact hours (.50 CEUS) of continuing pharmacy education credit.

AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for 5.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. PAs may receive a maximum of 5 Category 1 credits for completing this activity.
